CS 381 - Introduction to Theory of Computing, Summer 2004

  • May 17 - Welcome to 381! Class starts on May 25th, which is next Tuesday. In the meantime, feel free to browse around and email Lucja with any questions.
  • May 26 - Homework 1 is up on the website. It's due on Tuesday, June 1st.
  • May 27 - Lucja will have extra office hours tomorrow (Friday 28th), directly after class until 12:30 or so, in case you have questions about the first homework. She (and Peter!) will also answer questions by email during the weekend.
  • June 1 - I hope to set the time of the final for the course very shortly. If you have any important constraints on your timetable on July 6th (eg. another class or another final exam), please let me know by email today. Note that if your only constraint is CS 414, you do not need to email me - I know about this already. Thank you! Hopefully we can work out an exam time which works for everyone.
  • June 4 - The time and room for the final exam have now been set: 2pm on Tue, Jul 6th, in Hollister 362, the very same room where class is always held.
  • June 7 - Information on Prelim 1, as well as sample questions (without solutions so far), is available in the Exams section of the site.
  • June 8 - Solutions to the sample questions for Prelim 1 are available.
  • June 9 - 8:40 pm. The solutions to the sample questions have been corrected. Also, a new and improved version of Handout 2 (from today's class on decision problems) is available online.
  • June 14 - Lucja's office hours tomorrow (Tue June 15th) have been cancelled. Please email me if you were hoping to see me then and cannot come on Wednesday or Thursday.
  • June 18th - The department is currently changing things around with its webservers. This can sometimes mean that content (eg. homeworks) is not available for download here as soon as I put it up, but takes some time to appear. If you get a 404 error from any link on this site, try the same webpage at www8.cs.cornell.edu (that is, go to www8.cs.cornell.edu/courses/cs381/2004su and find the page you want starting from there). You will probably have better luck in that location. If you still can't access a document from www8, then PLEASE email me and tell me about it!
  • June 21st - There will be no class in the morning of Monday July 5th, the last day before the final. However, I will hold a review session in the afternoon of that day, in Hollister 362 (same room as always). This review session is completely optional and will be entirely driven by your questions and suggestions. So, if you come, please come prepared with questions you would like answered; perhaps you would like some material clarified, or a particular homework or prelim question was difficult for you and you would like us to go over it in class. Note that if no one brings questions, the review session will end almost immediately. Also, please let me know by email if you plan to come late (say after 2:30 pm). This is fine, but I need to know about it; otherwise, if no-one comes during the first half hour, I will likely go home!
  • June 30th - Info about the final exam, as well as sample questions on TMs, is now available in the Exams section.
  • July 7th - Everything is now graded, and your grades should be available in CMS. Your graded finals can be picked up from the Engineering Co-op office, Carpenter Hall Rm 201. Thanks for an enjoyable semester!
