Date Announcement
May 5, 2004 Supplier Demo Instructions:

  1. Before coming to your scheduled demo, please download the follow three files to your laptops: local-insert.sql, aw-insert.sql, and ph-insert.sql.

In the Microsoft SQL Query Analyzer, open 3 windows for each bookstore server, and copy and paste the contents of each script file in the appropriate windows. For example, login locally with cs330/cs330 and copy and paste the contents of local-insert.sql into the window. Then login with awadmin and use the aw-insert.sql file. Do the same for the ph-insert.sql file.

Finally, run each script in each of the 3 windows so that your database is properly set up for the demo. Keep these 3 windows open in the Query Analyzer so that the TAs can reset your database servers again at any time during the demo.
  2. Make sure you have the Supplier.java file downloaded and compiled as Supplier.class. This file is available via the CMS. Also, make sure you have the 3 Microsoft JDBC drivers need to run the server also on your computer. PLEASE make sure the Supplier Server runs correctly and starts with no errors on your laptops. You will lose points if we need to download and/or reconfigure the Supplier Server on your computer.

If you followed Step 1 properly, after you start the Supplier server and type 's' for Simulate, you should see the contents of the AW and PH database servers!
  3. Please make sure Tomcat is properly set up on your computer as you had to do for the Shopping Cart Demo. We will be downloading your CMS submission files, but using your pre-existing Tomcat setup.
  4. To people worried about this demo conflicting with their EJB assignment setup. You do not need to change/delete JBoss for the demo, so that the only thing being affected is the local database. We provided a bulk loading script to use for the EJB assignment, so you can just use that to set up your database again after your demo. The Java version for the EJB assignment should work for both.
April 13, 2004 Shopping Cart Demo Instructions:

  1. The demo will be held in two phases. One on 04/15 and the other in 04/20.
  2. The demos will take place in the csuglab on the isle with the empty tables.
  3. Please bring your laptop for the demo.
  4. During the demo you will be asked to download your submission from CMS, set it up on your machine and demo it to us.
  5. Please note we shall not see any other version of the assignment that may be present on your machine.
  6. Please bring the wireless network cards also. These may be required in case we require you to connect to CMS via Rover.
  7. We hope that the time slots will suit you. In case of inconvenience or any questions please talk to Professor Gehrke or one of the TA’s.
March 16, 2004 Material for the prelim

You will not have to write code, and you will not be asked about Tomcat installation etc.
  • Here is a practice prelim, this is the prelim from last year.
  • The best way to practice for the prelim is do the exercises at the end of the chapters in the book in a group of a few students together and to talk about the problems.
