Dialogue is the primary story vehicle in commercial, story-based games. As we see in this lecture, it is also the focus of some of the most interesting innovations over the past several years.

Most of the innovations are in the RPG space, as those are the games that focus the most on interactive dialogue. Interactive dialogue is interesting because it is often a game system in its own right. Techniques such as interrupts or reputation systems integrate ludic elements into games while also making your choices meaningful and impactful.
