Now that you have finished your alpha presentation, you (hopefully) have finalized your
control interface for your game. For that reason, it is time to start working on your
game manual. You will turn in your first draft of your game manual as part of
We will comment on this draft before you turn it in for the
final portfolio submission
at the end of the semester.
You should refer to the
to see how to create your game manual. The purpose of this communication lab is to have
some time with the
course staff to help you
work on the assignment. You should spend the lab time outlining the basic structure
of the manual and figuring out what you want to include in it.
To start off, we suggest that you come up with an outline of what your game manual
should look like. First, start with a table of contents of your manual. Tell us
exactly what will appear in your manual, and the role that each chapter serves.
If it is a particularly long chapter (e.g. your game has a lot of gameplay elememnts,
and you need to describe them all), then you should further break it up into sections.
For example, here is a very standard way of breaking up a game manual.
The systems requirements for your game.
How to install and uninstall your game.
An outline of the basic objective in your game.
Basic instructions on the controls of your game.
After you have done this, you might want to write a single paragraph describing what
you plan to write about in that section. Alternatively, you can get started filling
in that section already. It is up to you, but we suggest you use the time wisely.
There is nothing to turn in for this communication lab. Of course, we would like you to
use this lab to help you design your game manual. However, that is part of the submission
the assignment. You will not receive a separate grade for this communication lab.
