Please make use of the resources that the Course Staff have to offer

Background: usenet provides an excellent forum for discussion in public forums called newsgroups, using the Internet. A newsgroup gives students the chance to post questions and try to help one another. The CS100 staff monitors the newsgroup loosely and might try to offer answers. Follow the following policies when posting messages:

Use cornell.class.cs100m for course-related questions.
Post messages according to our e-mail policies and CIT's netnews guidelines.
Follow all rules of academic integrity! Never post fragments of your code for homework assignments. Instead, you should seek clarification of the underlying concepts, perhaps by pointing to an example discussed in class.
Save important articles because they will expire in about 10 days.

How to access Usenet on campus:

Refer to CIT's website for instructions. See also the instructions for using the Gravity newsreader. Gravity is available to you through Bear Access.

How to access Usenet from Roadrunner:

Set up Outlook Express to read news.
Go to Tools-->Accounts-->News-->Add.
Enter Name, E-mail (cornell), NNTP server: newsstand.cit.cornell.edu.
Under Properties, tick the box for "this server requires me to log on".
Under Account Name, enter NetID.
For Password, enter your NetID/Cornell e-mail password.

E-mail

CIT supports electronic mail (e-mail). Use the following guidelines when e-mailing staff and posting newsgroup messages:

Be polite! Give unclear writing the benefit of the doubt.
Do not use MIME-encoding or HTML. See why not.
Do not send unsolicited attachments.
Keep lines less than 70 characters in width in text. Wider lines are a little more tolerable in programs.
Use a fixed-width (monospaced or non-proportional) font, like Courier or Monaco.
Quote relevant text from the original message to establish context.
Add new text after the corresponding quoted text, NOT at the very top.
Deactivate automatic word-wrapping, and insert line breaks by hand.

Following these guidelines makes your messages friendlier and more accessible, thus making your questions more likely to be answered. CIT maintains a list of conventions, as well. Other netiquette conventions are reasonable, but please first follow the course conventions.
