CS100M: Project 1 Questions and Answers

1. What does ASCII stand for?

    ASCII is an acronym for American Standard Code for Information
    Interchange.

2. Give one reason on why many people, Dr. Fan included, prefer
    email in ASCII text to attachments or HTML messages.

    Because it often requires the person reading the message to have
    additional software to read it or to open the message in a
    separate window. Sometimes people are reading email through a
    remote connection and cannot display any other content, but plain
    text, appropiately.

3. May you work with a different partner on different projects?

    Yes.

4. Do you submit projects in class?

    No. You should do it online using CMS.

5. How do you request a regrade on any graded work in CS100?

    Within one week of the homework or exam being returned, fill out a
    regrade form (online or at Carpenter). Attach the form to a hard copy
    of the work in question, give it to the consultant, and wait while
    the consultant logs the request. The regrades are done by the TA
    in charge of the homework/exam and is completed and returned to
    Carpenter consulting area a week after the last day for submitting
    regrade request.

6. Given the following averages in terms of percentages:
      E=95, P=95, T1=75, T2=90, T3=80, F=85
    the student would receive what numeric score in CS100M?

    Grade = (0.05*E)+(0.25*P)+(0.1*T1)+(0.2*T2)+(0.2*T3)+(0.3*F)
            -(0.1*min(T1,T2,T3,F))
          = (0.05*95)+(0.25*95)+(0.1*75)+(0.2*90)+(0.2*80)
	    +(0.3*85) -(0.1*75)
          = 88.
