Econ 3810/Econ 6760/ CIS 5846: Decision Theory I
(Spring, 2014)
Breaking news:
May 7: As announced in class, Prof. Halpern's office hours have been
moved to Friday, 4:15 - 5:15. Prof. BLume's office hours are moved to Thursday
11-12:30; Adam Bjorndahl's office hour will be held as usual on Monday
morning, 10:30 - 11:30.
May 7: Prof. Blume's course notes on Intertemporal Choice and
Prof. Halpern's lecture on his joint work with Prof. Blume and
Prof. Easley are now posted.
April 14: As announced in class, there's a slight change in office
hours this week: Prof. Blume's office hours have been moved from Tuesday
4-5 to Wednesday 4-5; Prof. Halpern's office hours have moved from
Wednesday 4-5 to Tuesday 2:30 - 3:30. That's for this week only. Sorry
for the last-minute changes.
April 14: those of you who believe in fair coin flips might want to
check out the
NPR news
story about Persi
Diaconis's work. (Persi is a well-known statistician at Stanford.) The
site also shows a picture of his coin-flipping machine ...
The Cornell Store seems to have the wrong Gilboa book listed as the
text for this course. The right text is "Theory of Decision Under Uncertainty".
I have posted an old version of the Gilboa text and a
photocopy of the first three
chapters of the Kreps text
that we used to use. The first two chapters of the Kreps text cover
much of the material on choice without uncertainty that Professor Blume
has been lecturing on. I believe that you have to be on the Cornell
network to access this materal.
Office hours times and places have been finalized, and can be found
here.
The date for the prelim has been set: it will be on Tuesday, March
11, in class.
Sunday Feb. 9: Some clarifying comments have been added to some of the homework
questions (but the questions themselves remain unchanged)
As of Friday Feb. 7, the Kreps and Gilboa material should be
accessible using Red Rover. Recall that you have to be on a campus
network to access it. Let me know if you have any problems.
Feb. 26: the homework is graded and will be returned in class
tomorrow. Grades are posted on
CMS.
I have also posted a photocopy of
chapters 4-6 of the Kreps text.
Again, you have to be on the Cornell network to access this materal.
Feb. 27: Prof. Blume's office hours have been corrected; they are
only Tuesday 4-5. (Prof. Halpern has office hours Wednesday 4-5, not
Prof. Blume.)
March 4: Note that the final exam schedule is posted
(see http://registrar.sas.cornell.edu/Sched/S25/finalsD.html). The
course final is on Monday, May 12, at 2 PM in Goldwin Smith G76-Lewis.
This is actually the ifrst day of thhe final exam period. If you have a
conflict, or 3 or more exams in a 24-hour period, let us know (as soon
as possible!).
March 6: Here is the prelim we gave in 2008.
It covered essentially the same material as this year's prelim covers.
Solutions will be posted on CMS.
March 8: Here is the solution to
the prelim we gave in 2008. Also, note that the solutions to HW2 are
posted in CMS.
