Civitas

Client

Michael Clarkson, postdoctoral associate, Computer Science Department, clarkson@cs.cornell.edu.

Project

Civitas is an electronic voting system that enables voters to vote securely from remote sites (rather than centralized polling sites). It began as a research project in computer science but is now ready for a solid implementation including a web-based user interface. For more information, see: http://www.cs.cornell.edu/projects/civitas/.

The client writes, "We have already built a prototype implementation of Civitas as a proof of concept. But we need help to build a new web-based implementation that is robust, user-friendly, and deployable. Experience with building web applications will help, as will experience with computer security or cryptography. For students interested in pursuing research beyond this project, there are also problems to be solved in distributing trust and handling application-level DoS."
