Topology aware algorithms
		Knowledege of network topology can be used to optimize the performance of distributed algorithms. As illustrated in more detail in the descriptions on TCP/SPAND and pbcast, knowing whether a destination is 'near' or 'far' can improve greatly improve the performance of a wide class of algorithms.
