IRC Client for File Transfers

6th Feb 2003

The IRC is usually thought of as facilitating chat room based communication. But it also allows peer to peer file sharing via
CTCP. However the methods for using this feature of the IRC are clumsy, requiring text based commands to search and
initiate transfers.

The user is forced to manually determine which server is the best to use in terms of availability and speed. Other features such
as resuming broken transfers must also be managed manually by the user.

The goal of this project was to develop a GUI based IRC client specifically to make IRC file sharing that assumes as much
of the donkey work in the process as possible. Thus hopefully making the use of this resource a less painful experience
and opening it to a wider audience.
