License & Rights

If you want to take the idea of circular menus and incorporate it into your work, feel free. But since a lot of what you see is original work, I would like to be mentioned as the inspiration. Circular menus have been around for decades, so here's what is original to me:
  1. Instead of placing my menu options on a solid circular pie, I divided them into rectangles and arranged those rectangles around a circle, without blotting out anything outside of those rectangles. This avoided the problem of circular menus taking up large portions of the screen.
  2. Whereas other versions of circular menus keep their menu options in the same spot, my menu options are intelligent in that they move in response to the user's pointer motion, anticipating which option the user wants to pick and providing helpful visual cueues regarding which option the computer thinks that the user wants.
If you go one step further and take the Circle Menu source code and modify it then I want two things:
  1. I want my Circle Menus to be referenced by you. I don't mean that I want a "derived from Circle Menu by Greg Bronevetsky" splash screen to come before your version of a circular menu runs. What I do want is for you to put an easily visible notice on your circular menu's documentation and web page about me and my Circle Menu. That's all.
  2. As for your rights regarding how you use the source code and its derivations, see the GNU General Public License, which essentially says that neither you, nor anybody you give my source code to can charge for the source code for Circle Menu or any derivations thereof.
