The Legal Data Markup Software Project is a student project under the auspices of the Legal Information Institute of Cornell University.

The primary goal of this project is to produce a tool that will convert the U.S. Code from its distribution ASCII format into well-formed, valid XML.

The XML output from this tool will be used in next-generation applications that will make the U.S. Code available in a variety of different formats to the general public.
