Upload CSV

At any point during the semester, a course admin can upload a CSV-format file which contains (1) student information and (2) class information. This step is necessary at least once a semester, to upload various information that will go into the exported final grades report.

Uploading General Student Information

You can upload a CSV-format file contains NetID and any one or more of the following columns:
  • College
  • Department
  • Class Number
  • Section
  • Credit Hours
  • Grade Basis
  • Final Grade
Column names must be given on the first line of the file. All lines after the first are taken to contain data. Any column on any line after the first may be empty; if this presents a problem, the system will let you know.

Here is an example of a student information file ready to be uploaded into CMSX:
NetID,College,Department,Class Number,Section

  • Class Number is the 4 or 5 digit number that can also be uploaded for the entire class using the "Uploading Class Numbers" option in the next section.
  • College, Department, Class Number, and Credit Hours information are only available in the exported final grades file.
  • Section information will be displayed in the Students and Final Grades page if the "Enable sections" option is turned on in the course Setup page.

Uploading Class Numbers

Class number is a 4 or 5 digit PS-assigned class number, usually the same for every student on the grade roster, except for cross-listed courses or courses with multiple sections. Class number field is required for uploading final grades on Faculty Center system.

Towards the end of the semester, CMSX admin will upload class numbers that correspond to courses in CMSX, based on current semester course roster. The uploaded class numbers will appear in the exported final grades file using the Export as CSV for PeopleSoft upload option.

However, for cross-listed courses and courses with multiple sections, course staff will need to upload or enter the class numbers themselves. You may upload your class number using the sample files and steps provided below.

Here are two sample CSV-format files to upload class numbers. Please note the required columns: Course Code, Section, and Class Number.

(i) A course where class number is the same for every student on the grade roster:
Course Code,Section,Class Number
CS 2026,0,10832

(ii) A course where class number is different for each section:
Course Code,Section,Class Number
CS 1110,1,11081
CS 1110,2,11083

Once your data file is ready, proceed to the following steps:
  1. Click the Upload CSV link on the left navigation bar in CMSX.
