Logging In to CMSX

There are two ways you can access CMSX: as an authenticated user or a guest. To determine which method you are currently using, look in the right corner of the Header bar at the top of the page.
  1. Signing in with your NetID using SideCar or CUWebLogin. This will give you full access to the courses you are enrolled in and is how you should access the course when you need to do things like submit assignments or view grades.

  2. Entering the site as a guest.  In this mode, you do not have to log in, but you will not have full access to the courses you are enrolled in. You will be able to see files and content in any courses in which staff have allowed it.

Authentication using CUWebLogin

Standard or secure extended

When you sign in using the standard link on the CMSX Welcome page, your authentication credentials last for 5 minutes. This should be fine for general or student access, plus a short term credential is usually a safer option on a public or shared machine.

However, if you are course staff and need longer access time on CMSX site, you can sign in by authenticating directly using CMSX https secure extended link to gain longer login credentials, up to 8 hours or until you exit your browser. Please be warned that you must exit or quit your browser to clear your CUWebLogin credentials so that no one else can access the site as you!

If you encounter problem authenticating to CMSX using CUWebLogin, try deleting the old "cookies" (in particular from "cms3.csuglab.cornell.edu" and "cornell.edu") and check that your web browser is not blocking cookies.
