Overview
  Engineering 1500 is a one-credit fall course that lets first-year students get to know their faculty advisors during the first eight to ten weeks of the semester. Students meet regularly as a group with their faculty advisor to discuss a range of engineering topics. Discussions may include the engineering curriculum, aspects of various engineering careers, active research in the college and engineering in general, and study and examination skills useful to engineering students. Groups may also visit campus academic, engineering, and research facilities. All first-year students are pre-registered in a section of ENGRG 1050. The objectives of ENGRG 1050 are:
  • To let engineering first-year students meet regularly with their faculty advisors in a friendly atmosphere at the start of their academic careers so that they can develop supportive relationships and the understanding necessary for effective communication
  • To provide first-year students with an introduction and orientation to engineering activities and the College of Engineering
  • To help students improve study, examination, and survival skills useful in the College of Engineering
  • To make students conscious of the ethical principles by which members of the Cornell community as well as all engineers should abide

  • 10/6: Cornell Plantations (meet on the patio outside the gift shop, at the botanical gardens on Plantations Road)

  • 11/3: Food Processing & Development Lab & Cornell Dairy Plant (meet in the lobby area outside of the Dairy Business Office (formerly the Dairy Store) on the Tower Road side of Stocking Hall.). Note these rules and clothing regulations!
Grading
  The course is Pass/Fail. The key purpose is to attend and participate in the sessions. The more engagement everyone has, the better the experience for all. If you cannot attend, please let me know ahead of time. Generally, an excused absence involves sickness and other serious conflicts. To pass the course, you may not have more than one unexcused absence.
Academic Integrity
  This course follows the Cornell University Code of Academic Integrity. Each student in this course is expected to abide by the Cornell University Code of Academic Integrity. Any work submitted by a student in this course for academic credit will be the student's own work. Violations of the rules (e.g. cheating, copying, non-approved collaborations) will not be tolerated.
