Jackob Neilsen highlights work by CS professors

A recent issue of a bi-weekly newsletter written by Jakob Nielsen, the leading commercial web design and usability authority, was dedicated to the SIGIR05 paper by several Cornell professors, including CS professor Thorsten Joachims. Thorsten, Bing Pan, Helene Hembrooke, and Geri Gay, of Cornell, and Laura Granka, of Stanford, authored Accurately Interpreting Clickthrough Data as Implicit Feedback, which documents that search engine users click the top entry in the list of results much more often than can be explained by relevancy ratings, suggesting once again, that people tend to stick to the defaults. The newsletter is read by several hundred thousands of designers and usability practitioners.
