CS professor in the news

In the November 15, 2005, issue of Forbes.com, CS professor Lillian Lee is quoted in an article dedicated to sentiment analysis, the field of research that creates computer programs designed to determine whether a document is positive or negative. More difficult than it sounds, given that the same adjective can be either positive or negative: this point is illustrated in the article with the example of a hot refrigerator and hot nightclub.

The article also mentions Fast Search and Transfer ASA, a Norwegian search company that unveiled a customizable sentiment analysis program. CS professors Fred Schneider and Robbert van Renesse are technical advisors to the company for security and reliability.
