Úlfar's Name
As far as I know I'm the only Úlfar Erlingsson in the world.
There is one person, a few years younger, who also bears the name,
but he has a middle name (and likes sports), so there should
be no confusion.
- My first name, Úlfar, is not very common. Only perhaps
one hundred people are so named in Iceland. Also:
- It means ``wolf-like warrior,'' or, alternatively, just ``wolves.''
- It is pronounced ``OOLvaR.'' To clarify, speakers of American
should pronounce it like the ``ool var'' in ``cool varsity,''
with emphasis on the first syllable and and a
tip-of-the-tongue-scrolling R.
- My last name, Erlingsson, actually means ``son of Erlingur.''
So my first name is my real name, the second one just being a patronymic
attributing me to my dad (blatantly disregarding my mother).
