I too am a '99 JGC Laredo owner...loaded to a Limited, that absolutely hates this vehicle. I have had a laundry list of thing going wrong...fuel pump twice, rear drive shaft replaced, front and rear differentials replaced, stalling problem, constant whine, paint chipping, the car won't go straight down a road. If there is a class action lawsuit please let me know b/c I would love to get involved. I already have a "Lemon Law" suit pending in the State of NY

This is without a doubt the worst vehicle I have ever owned. My JGC was at the dealer for warranty work more times than all my other new vehicles combined. I finally traded it in for a 2000 GMC Jimmy and couldn't be happier. Is there a class action suit going on somewhere about this vehicle, if there is let me know and I will join. My problems are the same as everybody elses. Replaced fuel pump, as well as transmission problems, monitors, etc. list is too long.

Well, I'll add my tale of transmission woe to the board. I bought a 1999, new JGC Limited V8 Quadra-Drive in August, with a June build date. Ran great for 695 miles, at which point the transmission failed. Just like others of you have reported, the transmission had trouble shifting from 2nd into 3rd. Symptom first showed up at 695 miles and by 710 miles, the "check engine" light was on, third gear was gone, and the transmission was threatening to reject first gear. The dealer installed a new transmission, and I now have about 750 miles on it without a failure. The new transmission still "clunks" at stop lights, just like the old one, and I have the ubiquitous "gear whine" at 60 to 70 MPH, but my Quadra-Drive doesn't bind in tight turns like some of you have reported. (I have noted that the Quadra-Drive, on-demand 4-wheel drive system does slip the wheels more in gravel before it takes hold than my Audi all wheel drive system or my company's Ford Explorer viscous all-wheel drive system does; I suspect that may just be an inherent difference between full time all wheel drive systems and an on-demand 4-wheel drive system. Life is full of trade-offs, isn't it?) Overall, the Jeep is great!
