Paper Title:
Performance of a Software MPEG Video Decoder
Author(s):
Ketan Patel, Brian C. Smith, and Lawrence A. Rowe
Main Point(s):
This paper describes the design and
implementation of a software decoder for MPEG video bitstreams. The
software has been ported and tested on numerous platforms. Performance
measurements for different bitstreams and on different platforms are
given under a unique devised price/performance plan.
It is also shown that the memory bandwith is the primary
limitation in decoder performance not
the computational complexity of inverse discrete cosine transform
as commonly thought.
Possible Use(s):
Whereever MPEG is used.
