IV. Costs

We usually pay to rent the Lynah rink ourselves. This year we are particularly lucky to have some funding from the Department of Computer Science to help subsidise the ice times and make it possible for us to purchase more used beginner equipment.

For the 2009-2010 academic year, ice times cost us $175 per hour. Currently we have a fixed price of $10 per person per hour of ice time, which will be revised in the future based on the number of people regularly attending. Goalies (the first two to volunteer) don't pay since they don't get to have as much fun skating around all over the ice. The money we collect goes towards paying for the ice time plus some additional expenses:

  • Beginner equipment
  • Occasional pizza (e.g. at the blue line talk)
  • Subsidizing jerseys
  • The occasional free ice time

Even if attendance is high, we still keep the fixed cost to help subsidize times when attendance is lower. In the past we have experienced a drop in attendance as the year progresses. However, we may drop the price if attendance is consistently high.
