Contact for this project

There are two iPhone development projects listed on the project page. Alex Bodkin and Kenneth Bongort are collecting contact information for students interested in either project. Once they know how many people are interested, they can determine which project to work on, or whether to split into two teams and address both projects. The plan is to have a team formed by the end of the week.

If you are interested in either the Pet Nutrition or Library iPhone applications you should contact Kenneth Bongort (kjb79@cornell.edu; 516-669-1491).

Project

The requirement is for an application suitable for an iPhone or similar device that will allow a consumer to calculate the relative energy requirement for their pet (dog or cat). The required amount of energy will depend on a variety of variables (activity, indoor outdoor cats etc) and their dog or cat's current body condition and weight.

The formula traditionally used is (kg body weight)^0.75 power. Then this is multiplied by an activity variable that would be assessed through a series of questions. This resulting Kcal requirement would then be used when the consumer is shopping so they can enter in the Kcals per cup or can from a product and get a relative amount to feed.

The application will have a link to a web site that would tell the the consumer the Kcals in certain foods so if they are feeding table scraps they could account for those calories in the diet too as well as any treats that they have information on. This application could be on a PDA device to use while shopping for pet food or treats etc.
