COM S 431: Web Information SystemsCross-Listing: INFO 431, COM S 431(parent) This course examines the architectures, tools, and techniques for building and managing large-scale distributed information systems on the World Wide Web. The role and principles of traditional information systems such as libraries provide the foundation for understanding the nature of Web-based systems. A major theme of the course is the opportunity for exploiting raw computing power and intelligent algorithms to efficiently organize and manage distributed information at dramatically larger scale and lower cost than traditional environments.
