The Master of Engineering Program in Computer Science

The M.Eng. program in Computer Science is a one-year (two semester) professional development program designed to enhance professional skills in practical computer science. The program is particularly suited to students seeking advanced credentials for employment in industry.

Typically, an M.Eng. student takes several advanced courses and completes a faculty-supervised project in an area such as multimedia, networks, distributed and parallel computing, databases, scientific computing, software engineering, graphics or artificial intelligence.

The program is course intensive and requires a design project with a written report rather than a formal research thesis. Through careful and individualized curriculum planning, the program accommodates students from a wide variety of backgrounds who seek advanced training in a multiplicity of different subjects.

The M.Eng Program allows much flexibility in course selection which provides students the opportunity to tailor their program to accentuate their interest in traditional Computer Science areas as well as complementary areas from Electrical Engineering to Business Administration.

The time and effort devoted to improving technical knowledge and skills is an important investment that continues to be highly valued by industry.

Cornell undergraduates may take advantage of our Early Admission option to the M.Eng. program. This option allows a student to enroll as an M.Eng. student and begin working toward an M.Eng. degree during the final semester of his/her undergraduate studies.
